You’ve heard us for years now rattle on about how the Sunshine Coast is a great region to invest in, #1 in the country we actually say. But we know that there are many questions circulating about why people should invest in this region and not others when we are seeing people move all about the country, prices rising in most towns and cities and growth being achieved. Why do we still think the Sunshine Coast is #1? Well, it has to do with the push-pull phenomenon.

The Sunshine Coast PULLS people and money in

The Sunshine Coast is magnetic in that it attracts people to visit, live and invest due to the incredible lifestyle, infrastructure, economy and future opportunities. It continues to draw people in for positive reasons which sees the money follow. Due to the amount of housing not keeping up with the amount of people coming, the value of property and the rents received on investments continue to rise.

Fringe regions have people PUSHED to them

Where we see growth in fringe regions north and south of the Coast, and similarly to other suburbs outside major cities is due to the ‘push’ part of the economic scenario. Those who can’t afford to keep up with the price rises or don’t like the social changes that come with the growth of the Sunshine Coast or other major cities are pushed out of the region into other areas with lower-priced housing.

There is still growth and wealth to be made in these other areas, and we certainly do explore those opportunities as well, but the growth is unlikely to be to the extent that can be achieved in the Sunshine Coast which is increasingly attracting more people and more money due to strong foundations and solid future prospects.

Like panning for gold

If you consider a gold mining analogy to help understand the investment opportunities in this region, the Sunshine Coast is like mining the gold seam, but you can pan the fringes (the cheaper regions further out) and still get a gold nugget.

Like Manhattan Vs The Bronx

In a geographic example, the Sunshine Coast would be to surrounding regions like Manhattan is to The Bronx. All great places, but the pull factor of Manhattan and the Sunshine Coast will see these areas continue to grow more in value, pulling people into the epicenter of business, culture and opportunity, while areas surrounding the Sunshine Coast and The Bronx grow at a slower rate and act as dormitory (homes for workers) and feeder regions for the city.

To learn more about the key factors that make the Sunshine Coast so magnetic and idyllic, we are explaining everything in detail in our 2024 update of the Sunshine Coast Property Market Update which will be released in the coming weeks. In the meantime, our 2023 edition is available to view for free at www.scpmu.com.au and by signing up for that report you’ll be notified when the new report is released too.
